Crisis Solutions Silver Jubilee!

Crisis Solutions has been in business 25 years this month, so happy Silver Jubilee to us!!

Amazingly, our oldest clients have been with his almost from the start. And when we reminisce about clients who have gone away we can’t help thinking about some big names that have disappeared - Lehman Brothers and Silicon Valley Bank in particular!

So, what has changed over the years? Well, the working-from-home capability (accelerated by Covid) has changed the risk profile. This has meant that the ‘loss of building’ scenario is less of a problem. In addition, the fact that fewer people are in the office reduces the impact of a city-centre terrorist attack.

Perhaps the single biggest change has been in cyber attack mitigation. Not content with measures to prevent an attack, organisations have increasingly focused on the question of what to do if it does happen. To address this Crisis Solutions has run countless workshops focussing on three things:

1. What are our critical business activities?

2. What workarounds can we put in place if we lose access to our applications and systems because of a cyber attack?

3. What can we do NOW to mitigate the risk?

Typically this third question leads to some ‘old school’ solutions such as copying critical files, databases or customer lists to a computer which is separated from the network. Crude, but it can mean the difference between being able to do something or doing nothing during a cyber attack.

This has also meant an increase in the amount of work we do on operational resilience - particularly for regulated financial firms. Again, identifying critical business activities and mitigating the risks is crucial to this.

Throughout all this we have made some great friends and colleagues - it’s the people that we work with that make the days, months and years fly.

Happy Silver Jubilee!
